Dr. Hungwe honored Dr. King in such a powerful and relevant way during her talk. She left us with thought provoking question and calls to action!

Nobody has the right to determine my destiny, not even the woman that birthed me into existence. I have everything I need already deposited in me to fulfill my destiny.

It was such a pleasure to hear Dr. Hungwe's talk based on the teaching of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on the date when we celebrate his birthday. The message I received is that each of us is important and has a calling, or contribution to the greater good which we are uniquely gifted to make. The charge I received was to explore how I might serve with the talents and interests which God gave me to regain lost ground (if we ever had this) from the past years of pandemic and political interests. To give some perspective, I remember when young Tsitsi first came to Houghton, MI from Zimbabwe. It is delightful to see how their parents were able to support their children to become leaders in the U.S

Dr. Tsitsi's speech was a heartfelt reminder of what Dr. Martin Luth King's legacy is all about! Knowing and living out the life's blueprint is important because it's not just about and for us. Others are affected and benefit when we do; hence Dr. MLK and Dr. Tsitsi are examples of this!

I was reminded of my importance as an educator/advisor/mentor for students and how much of an impact our words can have. It was a fantastic reminder of how important it is to motivate and support our students, especially during times of challenge.
